To Think, To Write, To Publish accepting applications ? The Leeway ...

From October 3 to 7 in Washington D.C., To Think, To Write, To Publish, which comprises a two-part, multi?day conference and workshops, will bring together 12 emerging ?next gen? communicators and 12 early career scholars ? as well as creative writing professors and graduate students, museum professionals, and editors of mainstream publications ? to discuss the value and advantages of communicating science and innovation policy (SIP) to general audiences with creative nonfiction writing that uses narrative, scene and storytelling to engage and inform readers. The goals of the workshops are to provide opportunities for the scholars and writers to work together, to understand the processes of research and writing for general audiences and to have their work showcased in a major, nationally distributed publication. To Think, To Write, To Publish was developed by Arizona State University?s Consortium for Science, Policy, and Outcomes in partnership with the Writer?s Center and the Creative Nonfiction Foundation.

The organization is now accepting applications from scientists and writers for the 2012 program, due June 15.

In addition, To Think, To Write, To Publish invites you to the project?s keynote event on the evening of October 6. Speaking will be editors from Harper?s, The Atlantic, National Geographic, Publisher?s Weekly, Issues in Science and Technology, Narrative Matters?with a special guest appearance by and discussion with Virginia Morell, contributing correspondent for Science and author of the upcoming book Animal Wise: The Thoughts and Emotions of Our Fellow Creatures and three previously published and celebrated books. More guests to be announced.
